Radiation therapy includes proton therapy, often known as proton beam therapy. Instead of using x-rays to treat cancer, it uses protons. A positively charged particle is a proton. Protons have the power to kill cancer cells at high energies. Proton treatment is an option that doctors have. Moreover, they might combine it with surgery, chemotherapy, and/or immunotherapy. Like x-ray radiation, proton treatment is a type of external-beam radiation therapy. It uses a device outside the body to painlessly deliver radiation via the skin. Protons are accelerated by a device known as a synchrotron or cyclotron. High energy is produced by the protons' rapid speed. The protons are propelled by this energy to the precise location within the body. The targeted radiation dose is subsequently delivered to the tumour by the protons. Less radiation is administered outside of the tumour while using proton treatment. After x-rays depart the patient's body, they continue to deliver radiation doses during conventional radiation therapy. Hence, radiation potentially causes side effects by damaging neighbouring healthy tissues.
