Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the immune system. Lymph nodes (lymph glands), the spleen, the thymus gland, and bone marrow are all part of the lymphatic system. All of these areas, as well as other organs throughout the body, can be affected by lymphoma. Chemotherapy, immunotherapy medications, radiation therapy, a bone marrow transplant, or a combination of these may be used to treat lymphoma. Painless swelling of lymph nodes in your neck, armpits, or groin, persistent fatigue, fever, night sweats, shortness of breath, unexplained weight loss, and itchy skin are all signs of lymphoma. The cause of lymphoma is unknown. However, it all starts with a genetic mutation in a disease-fighting white blood cell called a lymphocyte. The mutation instructs the cell to multiply rapidly, resulting in a large number of diseased lymphocytes that continue to multiply. The mutation also allows the cells to continue to live when normal cells would die. This causes an overabundance of diseased and ineffective lymphocytes in your lymph nodes, causing swelling of the lymph nodes, spleen, and liver.
